Burning calories doesn’t have to be a dull and tedious moment. But chances are when you were using your exercise bike, most of the time you were zoning out to avoid the possible boredom which may lead you to fail the 20-minute only cycling session. You are not alone. Below we are sharing a few things you can do to make that time on a stationary bike more fun and exciting.
1. Mix up your usual routine
Trying a new exercise or activity to vary your routine is one of the quickest and easiest ways to overcome workout boredom. If you workout with OVICX app, we have cycling, running, cardio and yoga section covered, you may find that you like certain kind of exercise and you can rotate it into your routine. If you typically run or bike, try a yoga session.
Varying your routine not only helps prevent boredom but also can help your body and mind. When you do the same tasks the same way, your body adapts to the activity and becomes more efficient. The result is that you may not burn as many calories doing it as you did before, which can lead to a weight-loss pleatau.
Doing the same workout also increases your risk of overuse injuries. Varying the type of activities you do can limit the strain placed on the same parts of your body.
2. Listen to Music
Everybody listens to music, no doubt about that. Listening to your favorite tunes while exercising makes the clock tick by. Creating a playlist of your favorite songs for your workout routine is a good way to start. You can listen to upbeat songs to keep a lively atmosphere and get you going. It is totally up to you. Or you can follow the lead of OVICX class where all classes come with not only instructions but also background music.
3. Change Paces
Exercising at the same steady pace gets boring too. It feels like you are dragging.
To keep you entertained and challenged, try alternating from a slow to a fast pace. Start with a warm-up, and then increase the intensity. Just keep from falling into a boring and steady pace. Keep it ever changing. Have some easy pedaling, then a high-tempo pace.
Different paces will help keep your mind focused on keeping up instead of watching the clock. Or, you know what? Simply follow an interval riding session by OVICX instructors!
4. Look for Someone to Exercise With
If possible, find a workout buddy. You and your workout partner will be more motivated to exercise consistently. You’ll have someone to give you a nudge when you’re not feeling like exercising, and it can make your workouts more fun.
When looking for a workout partner, try to find someone who has similar goals, commitment level, and schedule to make it easy to plan time to exercise together. You don’t have to work out together every time. You may decide to exercise together once a week and then check in during the week to ensure you both followed through on other days.
If you want, you can even make new friends. You will have a good conversation starter since you have something in common already. But before you find the one or the ones to keep yourself company, try interact with the community through OVICX where you can high-five during the ride and follow them, then maybe race each other on the leaderboard, let’s keep it fun!
Try to visualize yourself getting more fit and healthy. Imagine yourself enjoying life because you are so energized.
This is a good way to keep you motivated. It will help you finish however long a workout you set for yourself. Thinking about the benefits, you will reap after an exercise will keep you from giving up too early. Having body and health goals will encourage you to endure the workout.
6. Make Up a Story
Use your imagination and think-up a story. Imagine yourself in different situations. Play your movie inside your head.
For example, you can imagine yourself competing in a track-cycling event. You are neck-and-neck with another cyclist, and you are both almost to the finish line. The crowds are screaming. Everybody is anxious, and you are going as fast as you can.
Paint a picture and keep yourself entertained. Your imagination has no limits.
